Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. Split your lungs with blood and thunder when you see the white whale.
WORDS
I’ve only painted him a few times but I have a blast every time I make a new Vader piece. There’s something about the patches of skin behind his unique mask that gives my imagination so much to work with!
I got into wrestling shortly after Vader’s career peaked, so I was largely unfamiliar with him for several years as a casual fan. One night I was watching some old AWA on ESPN Classic and I saw this young guy named Leon White who blew my mind. It was the early days of the internet so I asked a friend what ever happened to that guy and he laughed and said, “Dude, that’s VADER.”
“Welp. Guess I’m a fan of Vader now.” And I stayed one.

YOU GOOD?
Monday I finished an upcoming AEW painting (I’m about two months ahead at this point, in case you were wondering about that sort of behind-the-curtain-stuff). I think you’ll like it. I’m biased, but we’re on a hell of a run through August.
Tuesday was what I call a ‘clerical day’, where I do a lot of non-painting stuff. I digitized my last three paintings to send over to PWT and AEW for approval, then edited together the episode of Artist of Champions for today’s Vader painting and uploaded to PWT. After that I spent a few hours penciling out my next Emotion Series painting, then headed over for an evening of figure drawing and finally made some art!
I was really inspired by one of the studies of our model Doug and spent yesterday doing a more detailed painting of him. I’ll share that with you on Sunday. We also launched the original Owen Hart painting yesterday and it sold within a few minutes to Natalya Neidhart, making that all the more special. She’s the absolute best. Like, however great you hope she is, she exceeds all expectations.
Back when I first started working with WWE, she was Katy’s favorite wrestler. They talked online a bit but it was around a year before they actually met, which happened to be backstage at the Hall of Fame for WrestleMania 31. I was about to introduce them when Nattie, in an amazing gown that they had to sew her into, rushes past me yelling, “Katy! It’s so great to finally meet you!” That’s just how special she is. She and Katy are still super tight.
Love you more,Rob
