Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. But I just cannot seem to keep hold of anything for more than a short time.

If you can believe it, this is my first-ever painting of the legendary wrestling commentator Tony Schiavone! I went with a more traditional portrait approach so that I could in on him doing what he does incredibly well: Talking into a microphone on a pro wrestling show!

I recently started looking at and falling in love with ancient Zapotec art the southern area of Mexico in Meso-American times. There’s a gorgeous design and form to them with bold lines that take my breath away.

Many of them don’t have their original paint anymore due to the passage of time but the ones that do are simply rad. Maybe its their similarity to pre-computer coloring comic book art that was done with the four-color process but it speaks to my soul and imagination.

I’m not a historian by any means and am coming in cold to this, simply admiring the art for its beauty. So much was lost when the European colonizers came with disease and destruction but these pieces that survived that and the time since speaks to an incredible culture.

It fires up my imagination in an exciting way and speaks to the lasting power of art and the beauty that artists can bring to our world.

I’ll leave you today with this coleus variety that’s done really well for me this year. I think it’s a ‘flame thrower’ variety but I have no idea. It’s just pretty.

A little beauty goes a long way.
