A friend passed away on Friday and I’m left kind of numb, trying to process it. We were together not too long ago at an anniversary party, talking and laughing the night away and now he’s…gone. We’d made plans to get together and for a variety of reasons we didn’t so I’m left with a memory of a fun night. He’s just gone and it sucks and I ache for his family, who are all so dear to me.

A few years back I started telling my friends that I love them. As guys in our society we don’t say that enough and that’s dumb because it’s good to let people know you love them and to have them tell you they feel the same thing. When I end a conversation or leave a get-together I make a point to hug them and tell them I love them on the off chance that it’s the last time I see them.

I’m glad I did that at the end of that party.
