Hi. My name's Rob Schamberger. I'm that guy who paints rasslers. And other stuff. Dance with me, don't dance with me, no…Beep-beep.

WORDS

Harley Cameron has quickly become a fan-favorite with the AEW fans, which is great for me because she’s a fun subject. This one’s a little more cheesecake-y than most of my stuff but hey, we’re all adults here. I still wanted to add my own flourishes to it stylistically and I think it’s an interesting balance of subject and style. The gear was also an interesting challenge that I’m happy with how it came out. For the pattern, I put down primer coats and then applied some masking fluid with a ruling pen, followed by darker coats of pink and blue. When I pulled away the mask, that lighter coat was still there to create the grid pattern. I think it’s a visually interesting addition to the composition.

ART I LIKE

An artist who does nothing short of sorcery in my eyes is Rene Gruau. Renowned as one of, if not THE preeminent fashion illustrator, the magic he performs is doing so much with so little.

The deceptive power of minimalism is, what makes it so difficult is that an artist has to get every brush stroke, every bit of visual information, exactly right. There’s no room for error because there’s no way to hide any shortcoming.

So, okay, you have to get everything right, but Rene Gruau gets everything GREAT. He managed to always get the exact perfect line to convey the most grace and beauty. It’s staggering how lovely his works are with a few flicks of the brush. Wizardry.

It’s mind-boggling as an artist to look at Gruau’s works. There’s been a few times where I’ve been hanging out with other artists and we’ll look through his work and every time the phrase is uttered, “How does he do it?” Normally there’s some cussing involved, too.

Abolish ICE.

YOUR MOMENT OF ZEN

The other morning there was a deep fog and I got this lovely haunting photo.

Nothing deep to share, just thought you’d like to see some fog.

Love you more,
Rob
